About the project
Our community projects settle in town centers, where an ethical project has the most chance to serve as an example for the local civil society. For our first project, we settled in Marseille, the oldest city in France and one of the wildest cities in Europe. Marseille was founded 2600 years ago by the Greeks meeting another, more ancient civilization, the Ligurians (already here for several thousands of years). Thanks to its rich history of cultural exchanges, it has become a true social ‘melting pot’. Marseille has also been elected the European Capital of Culture 2013.
The hostel intends to provide our travellers’ community with a safe place to relax, rest, meet other travellers and get the best out of the city. We operate 24/7 to ensure nobody is left in the street without a roof and can get a smile to start with in Marseille We always do our best to ensure that our guests experience their trip the way we would like to experience travelling to mysterious and remote places. We are not a party hostel or “binge hostel”, and try as much as we can to focus on the cultural exchanges that make travelling a life experience.
Moreover, we promote through our efforts the idea of human values, alternative economy and non-profit lifestyle. We are an independent, self-financed, self-managed project, and a member of the Ligue Française des Auberges de Jeunesse (LFAJ) recognized by French government as an official International Youth Hostel network representative.
